Attention “Empty Nesters”: This is YOUR time! You have worked hard and done well to get all of your kids off to college. Now take some time for yourselves. Get to know each other again and enjoy some unique activities in the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania.
Exploring the Cumberland Valley Beer Trail is one way to begin your getaway and learn about the area. From Chambersburg to Harrisburg there are craft breweries, wine shops, a meadery, and even producers of Hard Cider where you can sip and taste while gathering stickers to win great prizes. But mostly, you will be enjoying your new status as an official Empty Nester!
Enjoy some time outside! Hike the Appalachian Trail, do some bird watching, try your hand at fly fishing, or go kayaking on some our calm waters. There are parks and water trails all mapped out for you. You can take a ride on the Pride of the Susquehanna for a unique view of PA’s beautiful capitol building. We even have trails through the woods here at 30 Timber Road B&B where you can take a little stroll and stop at one of quiet spots just to bathe in the woods.
If you are looking for a relaxing way to connect, experience a couples massage at SPAtacular Escapes. This new salon and spa is an easy drive from our B&B. On your way back from the spa, stop at Sophia’s at Walden for dinner and taste a craft beer (or take some beverages to Sophia’s for dinner drinks) at Harty Brewing Co.
There are lots of special events happing in September too. The new Keystone Theatrics Company will be producing “Peter and the Star Catcher” September 8-16, 2017 at the playhouse at Allenberry. This show is known as a grown up’s prequel to Peter Pan. Make your reservation to stay with us and purchase tickets for the play.
The Harvest of the Arts Festival will take over downtown Carlisle on Saturday, September 23, 2017. This juried art & crafts show is one of the finest in the area. It begins at 10AM and provides entertainment, foods, and wonderful arts & crafts until 5PM.
On the weekend of September 29-30, 2017, you can learn about and sample a world of teas at the Pennsylvania Tea Festival taking place at The Rosemary House and Sweet Remembrances Tea Room in downtown Mechanicsburg. I’ll let you in on a little secret – The Rosemary House is where I purchase all of my spices that I don’t grow myself – it’s a wonderful shop!
The last Carlisle Car Show of the season happens September 27-October 1, 2017. Fall Carlisle features an auto auction, huge swap meet, and the women’s oasis tent (for a break from just “car stuff”).
October will reveal lots of color in our area and provide lots of fun fall festivals too. American Craft Week, Fall Furnace Fest, Oktoberfest(s), Apple Festivals, and Pumpkin Fests will keep you entertained during October!
Make you plans and your reservations for your Empty Nesters’ getaway. You deserve it. Now is YOUR time!
