Celebrating Independence Day in the Cumberland Valley does not mean just one night of fireworks. SummerFair in Carlisle begins on June 24, 2016 and continues until the fireworks display on July 4. There are tons of things to do and see during this 11-day event – and they are all FREE!
Opening ceremonies begin on Friday, June 24th on Dickinson College’s Rush Campus. After the official announcement, there is an ice cream social (FREE!) and classic rock music is performed by Cheap Sneakers. Ice cream and rock music sounds like a nice way to spend a summer evening.
Saturday, June 25, 2016 is packed with activities! You can enjoy and/or participate in and Around-town bike tour, mini-craft show and food court, a dog show, Hotdog eating contest, and baby races – while being entertained by a magician and the Carlisle Town Band.
Sunday, June 26th is a day to view some great art at the Trout Gallery on the Dickinson Campus.
Monday, June 27th offers open swim day at Boiling Springs Pool or Swing Dance Lessons. Learn some history of Carlisle when members of Historic Carlisle provide a reenactment of the first meeting to take place after the British blockade of Boston in 1774. This meeting was one that led into the First Continental Congress.
The Jim Thorpe track meet, an All-star Softball Game, and a Scavenger Hunt are the offerings on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Also on Thursday, support the Rotary Club by enjoying a great roast beef dinner ($10 per ticket).
On Friday through Sunday, Anything Goes will be presented as the musical for this year’s edition of SummerFair. Admission is FREE – as is all of the events for SummerFair – and will be offered at the Carlisle Theatre.
On Sunday, July 3, perhaps the most popular event of SummerFair takes place on the lawn at Dickinson College. An outdoor concert by the Harrisburg Symphony will be the entertainment for the evening. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and a picnic basket and enjoy the music provided by this wonderful orchestra!
Monday, July 4 is the date for “Anything that Floats” Races on Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs. This event always draws a crowd and provides lots of laughter! And the big finale for SummerFair happens at dusk when fireworks light up the sky over the Carlisle Fairgrounds to say Happy Birthday America!
Come to the Cumberland Valley for a red, white, and blue July 4th Celebration!
