Wednesday is Veterans Day. We honor those who have served or who are currently serving our country. To say “thank you”, our B&B will offer all of our guestrooms for a free stay on the night of Tuesday, November 10th. This is the one thing we can offer on this holiday to show our appreciation for your work to protect our home country. B&Bs around the country will participate in this way.
This day marks the anniversary of the end of World War I, which ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. ‘Armistice’ is a word not frequently used these days. It means: a formal agreement of warring parties to stop fighting. What a wonderful step on the way to lasting peace!
The United States originally observed Armistice Day on November 11 – it then evolved into the current Veterans Day holiday in 1954 and has always remained set on 11/11 as a reminder of the end of “the war to end war” (H.G. Wells/Woodrow Wilson).
Today we honor all Veterans on November 11 and still hope for a lasting peace throughout the world.
