First Snow = Happy Thanksgiving for Skiers!

We have our first snow of the season and it’s bringing joy to area skiers!  Roundtop Mountain Resort will open on Friday, Nov. 28th. The crew has been making as much snow as they could and, with a little help from mother nature, their work has paid off! After all the turkey and football on Thursday, go skiing rather than fight the mall shopping crowds!  Take a snow day.

The snow may be adding travel challenges to many across the northeastern part of the country…but it sure is pretty. We hope that you will have safe travels, arrive safely, and enjoy the spirit of gratitude that is Thanksgiving!

There are lots of things to do in the Carlisle and Mechanicsburg areas this weekend and looking toward December. Boiling Springs will celebrate the season with their annual Tree Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 7th. Enjoy some hot chocolate while listening to (or singing with) the Carolers dressed in Victorian garb. Santa himself will take a boat out to the center of the lake to light the village’s Christmas tree. It’s one of those quaint “small town USA” happenings that all generations can enjoy!

The Christmas season is not complete without “The Nutcracker” and no one performs it better than the Central PA Youth Ballet! You can see the production in Harrisburg at the Whitaker Center or in Hershey at the Hershey Theater.

Remember to shop at a small business on Saturday, Nov. 29th. For local shopping ideas in the Cumberland Valley, see listing from our visitors bureau.  You can also support small businesses and local communities by purchasing a gift certificate at a PA B&B. Give a gift of a stay at 30 Timber Road Bed & Breakfast – or – purchase a gift certificate that can be used at any member of the PA Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns. The memories of that special gift experience can last a lifetime!

We wish you all a very HAPPY Thanksgiving!
