Things to do in Carlisle and Mechanicsburg PA

Labor Day weekend is upon us and for many of us it seems like the ‘unofficial’ end of the summer.  In our area this weekend is the time for the Kapona Festival in Harrisburg, PA.  The festival is a celebration of life on the Susquehanna River. “Kapona” is a Native American word meaning wide, sparkling waters and that is a great description of the river that runs through our region of PA.  There will be fun festival foods, music, arts & crafts vendors and fireworks. Come to south central PA and celebrate the wide, sparkling waters with us.

If you’re into old time power, Williams Grove park is holding the Steam Engine Experience. These mighty coal-fired engines powered locomotives, saw mills, boats, and tractors. You can see how they ran and hear those iconic whistles. There is also the weekly flea market on Sunday where you may find that special treasure for a collector in your family. On Sunday, 8/31, the Williams Grove Speedway will show off a newer type of power with the Billy Kimmel Memorial races for 410 Sprints & Sportsman Championship & Fireworks.

Remember that the sweetest place on earth is nearby with lots to see and do! Jimmy Buffet is appearing at nearby Hershey Stadium – “Margaritaville” is a great place to be for the end of the summer!  The Butterflies are still in action at the Butterfly House at Hershey Gardens. While you’re there, you can visit one of our local wineries or breweries for a taste of a PA beverage product!

We, the innkeepers at 30 Timber Road Bed & Breakfast, know the area and can tell you special “secret” places to eat or hike or shop. Visit our FaceBook page or website to get all the contact info you need.

Have a great Holiday Weekend!
